Iron Snout Weapons: How to Catch a Cleaver and Throw It Back

Published · 2 min read

The pig in Iron Snout has no weapon of its own, and it does not need one. Almost everything the wolves bring can be taken off them, and a caught cleaver kills faster than any punch. This is how the catching works and what to do with each thing you catch.

The catch is an attack, not a block

There is no block button. When a wolf throws something, you have three options: take the hit, press Down to duck under it, or attack toward it as it arrives. The third option is the catch. The window is generous but not huge: swing when the weapon is about a pig-width away from you. Do it right and the pig is now holding a cleaver, the Items Caught number on the stats panel goes up by one, and your next attack in either direction throws it. A thrown weapon flies straight through the first wolf in that lane.

What the wolves bring

  • Cleavers from the basic butcher wolves are the bread and butter. Catch, throw, repeat. If you have one in hand and a wolf is already in punching range, punch normally; you keep the cleaver until you throw it.
  • Chainsaws are swung, not thrown. Duck the swing and hit low, or jump and kick down; a chainsaw wolf that loses its head drops the saw where you can grab it.
  • Rockets come in with a wolf riding them. A normal punch misses. Jump, then press the direction of the rocket: the kick sends it back down the lane, and the game calls that Rocket Bender.
  • Riot shields on the SWAT wolves absorb the first hit. Knock the shield out of the way (that is the Shield Knock stat) and the second hit lands.
  • Skateboards roll under a jump and over a duck. Duck, then kick: the board flies into whatever is behind the wolf.
  • Pokeballs, wrecking balls and swords show up as the kill count climbs. Treat anything thrown as a cleaver and anything swung as a chainsaw.

Combos and the stats panel

Press Escape mid-fight and the panel on the right lists Fight Time, Kills, Strikes, Hits, Best Combo, Weapon Kills, Projectile Kills, Projectiles Dodged, Items Caught and Heads Knocked Off. Strikes counts every swing; Hits counts the ones that connected, so a big gap between the two means you are punching air, usually because you tapped Left to move instead of to attack. Best Combo grows while you keep landing hits without being hit yourself, and it is one of the four numbers that unlock outfits for the pig.

One habit that changes everything

Stop treating the arrows as movement. The pig never walks. Each key is a direction to hit in, and the whole game is choosing the side, the height (jump, stand, duck) and the moment. Once that clicks, the wolves stop feeling like a crowd and start feeling like a queue.
